Seasonal Sadness

 The music changes seasons

And I'm surrounded by reasons

To laugh and dance with shoppers down the lane.

But the festive Lights feel distant

And my listlessness, so insistent

I fight to catch my breath before I start to rain

Through tearing eyes, I can fake a smile

Knowing it might be a while

Till I feel like my old self again

So between the fruit punch and merriment

If you wonder where my spirit went

It's still here, just subdued, my friend

So sit and share some tea with me

To chase away the cold without, within

And thank you for spending this time with me

Even if I'm too poor to spare a grin

To my Newborn Daughter

Every tender moment, I’ve experienced, or thought I knew

Coalesced and distilled, into the shape my heart holds for you

Every swelling in my chest, that makes me so happy I could cry

I behold in your little smile when you look me in the eye

And holding you is completion, this little angel entrusted to me

To arm with love, knowledge and strength, to face your destiny

I wish this could be forever, this innocent joy of mine

That I could hold you close and love you, from now till the end of time

I never knew it would feel like this

To be so happy that it hurts

To introduce you to this life

To a whole new world of firsts

Your little hand around my finger

Like my heart wrapped around yours

Every fiber of my being

Focused on how much I adore

Every moment you are with me

And how I never really knew

How full my life would be

The moment I held you

Fleeting Moments

 In the steady creeping pace of day to day

So much that we forget to say

And for the moments, fleeting be

Let me tell you what you mean to me

The ripples that travel through my soul

That you placed there, from what you show

Make me today who I am

You've helped me be a better man

From a laugh we have or evenings late

Or the work we both procrastinate

In the jokes that only we may share

Or simply knowing that you care

With the Muse I wait breathless for your song

These moments on which our hearts thrive

The essence you feel down at your core

The spirit your voice has given life

From the mundane to the divine

Whether we've shared moments or we've shared years
